Kilauea, known as one of the world’s most active volcanoes, has erupted again on the island of Hawaii.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Kilauea’s 54th eruption began on August 25 at around 10:30 a.m. local time. The activity was concentrated in the Halemaʻumaʻu crater, located within Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

During the initial phase, lava fountains rising around 15-20 meters emerged from the northern vent. The eruption intensified within a short period, sending lava fountains several hundred meters into the air.
The first signs of renewed activity were detected a day earlier, when scientists observed light spattering of molten rock followed by flows from the northern vent. By morning, the activity had developed into a continuous lava fountain.
Northeasterly winds could carry volcanic gases and ash toward the southwest, while authorities forecast moderate ashfall. Larger fragments are expected to remain near the vents, while fine ash and so-called “Pele’s hair,” a thin form of volcanic glass, could be carried by the wind toward Pahala and other communities in the Kau District.
