Veliaj objects to transfer to Fier: After 31 hours, we were told the decision was secret

Erion Veliaj reacted to his transfer from Durrës Prison to the prison in Fier, criticizing the lack of transparency surrounding the authorities’ decision.

In a Facebook post, he said it took 31 hours for him to be informed that the transfer decision had been classified as secret.

Veliaj argues that, without being provided with the administrative act, he is unable to effectively review, challenge and appeal the decision.

He described the situation as a shift from what he called arbitrariness in making the decision to concealing it under the classification of “state secret.”

Veliaj called on the authorities to present the authorization from the prime minister, through which, he said, it is determined who has the right to classify information as secret.

“Make available to us the authorization from the country’s prime minister that authorizes you as a classifying authority,” Erion Veliaj concluded his statement.

His transfer to Fier Prison has prompted reactions from his legal defense and public figures. Discussions about the reasons for the decision and institutional transparency are continuing.
