Vangjel Dule on the SHISH scandal: We have seen only the tip of the iceberg, national interests are at risk

The head of the Party for Human Rights (PBDNJ), Vangjel Dule, commented on the latest developments surrounding the SHISH scandal, which led to the arrest of Vlora Hyseni, during the “First Minute” program on News24.

According to Dule, what has been made public so far represents only “the tip of the iceberg,” while the problem may be much broader and more troubling.

Dule recalled that several politicians were mentioned during the parliamentary investigative commission established in 2014 as suspected of having been illegally wiretapped, but his case was the only one to become public. He said this indicates a tendency for the institution to become involved in matters of domestic political life, beyond its mission. According to him, the latest situation has affected areas considered untouchable in any system and is even more dangerous because Albania is not an isolated country. He described this as a threat to the country’s national interests, as well as those of its allies, at a time when the Western world, of which Albania is a part, is facing threats and the country is not demonstrating the necessary responsibility. Dule also raised concerns that there is no clear assessment from the international alliances of which Albania is a member.

He stressed that it remains to be seen how the process will proceed and what the conclusions of the justice system will be. At the same time, Dule accused the Special Prosecution of selective actions. According to him, the former head of state, the President, cannot be arrested in broad daylight and violence be triggered in only one case, while the institution that has received greater support than any other institution must justify it through transparency and the absence of selectivity.
