US Embassy rejects protester’s statements: Allegations of threats in our name are completely false

The US Embassy has categorically denied statements made publicly by a young man during the protest in front of the Prime Minister’s Office, according to which he had received threats in the name of this institution, describing them as completely untrue.

The Embassy’s position was conveyed through one of its officials, after the protester not only claimed that he had received threatening phone calls and messages in the name of the US Embassy in Tirana, but also publicly addressed the institution with the words: “Is this how you treat Albanian youth? Shame.”

His public appeal to the US Embassy further implied the claim that the source of the alleged threats was the headquarters of the American diplomatic mission in Tirana.

During his speech at the gathering, the protester said: “A few hours ago I received some anonymous threatening messages and phone calls. I believe many others have as well; I am not the only one who has received them. Threatening messages because of my peaceful protest for this people. But today I do not come with private messages. I am delivering a public message. We will stay here, we will protest here, until our demands are met. And one last thing, the messages claimed they were from the American Embassy. Let me ask the American Embassy a question: Is this how you treat Albanian youth? With threats? With intimidation?”

These statements were then followed by a response from the US Embassy itself.
