U.S. Energy Secretary: Passage through the Strait of Hormuz is continuing normally, the U.S. has established an alternative corridor

Despite the recent tensions in the Middle East, the movement of ships through the Strait of Hormuz remains largely unaffected, according to U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright, who said that 67 vessels passed through this strategic point over the past 24 hours.

In an interview with Fox News, Wright said that the volume of ships transporting oil and its derivatives continues to remain close to the levels seen before the escalation of the crisis in the region.

These statements were made one day after Iranian authorities announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz due to military tensions in the Middle East. However, Washington immediately rejected this claim, emphasizing that maritime traffic is continuing.

He also said that the main shipping corridor has still not been fully reopened, but that the United States has established an alternative route farther south to ensure the passage of commercial vessels.

“We have created a special corridor in the south and are escorting the ships passing through it,” he said.

According to the U.S. secretary, this intervention is intended to preserve the normal functioning of one of the most important maritime routes for global energy transport.

However, he acknowledged that the level of concern over security remains high in the maritime transport sector, as many companies and shipowners are closely monitoring developments in the region.

The Strait of Hormuz is considered one of the most important energy chokepoints in the world, as a large share of global oil and liquefied natural gas exports passes through it.

Any disruption to traffic in this maritime corridor could have a direct impact on international energy markets, as well as on supplies to major importing economies.
