Two Tankers Catch Fire After Passing Through a Minefield in the Strait of Hormuz

Two tanker ships caught fire after hitting mines while attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz outside the corridor designated by the Iranian authorities, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard announced.

According to the Guard’s statement, before the incident both ships had asked the U.S. military to use an “illegal route.” Shortly afterward, they hit the mines.

“The ships hit the mines and exploded… they are currently on fire,” the Iranian forces said in a statement.

The Revolutionary Guard said that the crews had abandoned the ships, which subsequently came under the control of American agents. Iranian naval forces also claimed that they had warned the crews about the danger of sailing in the mined area.

Meanwhile, Saudi state-owned shipping company Bahri reported that two Filipino sailors had died in an incident that occurred the previous day involving a tanker in the Strait of Hormuz.

“Bahri confirms that the vessel Sidr was involved in a security incident while transiting the Strait of Hormuz,” the company said on the X platform, confirming the deaths of two crew members.
