Trump suggests a new name for New Mexico: ‘New America’ in a series of 34 posts

Donald Trump has revived his idea of changing geographical names, this time putting the spotlight on the US state of New Mexico.

Through a map posted on Truth Social, the US president presented the name “New Mexico” transformed into “New America”. In the graphic he shared, the word “Mexico” was symbolically crossed out with a large red “X” and replaced with “America”.

The map was published by the official White House account on X, without any accompanying explanation. Also, no official initiative to change the state’s name has been announced.

The US president does not have the authority to change a state’s name on his own, unlike some geographical feature names that can be modified for federal government use.

The post was one of 34 messages that Trump shared on Truth Social in less than an hour on Sunday. The posts covered various topics, including Iran, the economy and the elections in Germany.

This is the latest in a series of Trump’s interventions in geographical names. After returning to the White House in January 2025, he signed an executive order designating the federal use of the name “Gulf of America” instead of the Gulf of Mexico.

On August 27, 2026, Trump signed another executive order, through which Lake Ontario was renamed “Lake America” for federal use. The decision was made at a time when trade relations between the US and Canada continue to be strained.

Among his 34 posts was also a manipulated image, where Trump’s face was superimposed onto the body of wrestler Hulk Hogan. The latter appeared with a bandana reading “MAGA”.

In another graphic, Iran’s borders were depicted in a way that created the silhouette of the US president’s face, while the military conflict with Tehran has been going on for more than six months.

Trump also shared several graphics that, according to him, showed the results of his administration’s economic policies.

Another post contained a screenshot predicting the AfD election result in Saxony-Anhalt. He reposted this material without any comment.
