Trump Says Documents on Alleged Chinese Interference in the 2020 Election Will Be Made Public

From the White House, US President Donald Trump announced that his administration intends to declassify intelligence materials which, he said, prove China’s interference in the 2020 presidential election. He said the documents also highlight serious shortcomings in the United States’ electoral system.

Trump repeated his allegations regarding the 2020 election process, in which he was defeated by Joe Biden, claiming that the election had been rigged. He accused China of what he described as “the largest election data hack in history.”

According to the US president, the materials expected to be released show that China illegally obtained the personal data of around 220 million American voters. Among them, he mentioned names, addresses, phone numbers, political leanings and other sensitive data related to voter registration.

He also stated that Beijing had created a dedicated structure to use this information, while efforts to exert influence over US elections, he said, had begun as early as 2018.

In his statement, Trump criticised representatives of what he calls the “deep state,” as well as the US intelligence community. He accused them of concealing information about the alleged Chinese interference, without making it known to either the president or the American public.

Trump said the current electoral system remains vulnerable to breaches and called for sweeping changes to protect the integrity of elections. According to him, voting by mail is “fundamentally corrupt,” and he called for the process to be almost entirely restricted.

He warned that the next midterm elections, scheduled for November, could also face the risk of fraud if the US electoral system does not undergo fundamental reforms.
