Trump and Macron to meet today in New York, with wars and global crises at the center of talks

Donald Trump and Emmanuel Macron will meet today in New York, where they are attending the session of the United Nations General Assembly.

According to the schedule published by the White House, the talks between the American and French presidents are due to begin at 5:35 p.m. local time. The discussion is expected to focus on developments on the international stage and the main crises troubling the international community.

Before meeting Macron, Trump will receive Zoran Mamdani, the mayor of New York City. Mamdani is part of the left wing of the Democratic Party and has voiced opposition to several policies of the American president.

The French president traveled to New York from Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon, a French territory in the North Atlantic. There, on Sunday, he met with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.

Macron and Carney declared their support for the national sovereignty of France and Canada, while also calling for closer ties between the two countries. The meeting took place at a time when Trump has repeatedly spoken about Canada, including threats to annex it.

During his stay in New York, Macron will also hold other bilateral meetings. In addition to Trump, he is expected to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and other leaders, with whom he will discuss the international crisis and developments in the Middle East.

In his address to the UN General Assembly, the French president is expected to call for stronger multilateral cooperation and alliances between states.

The French presidency has expressed concern over the declining effectiveness of multilateral structures. It has also highlighted the deepening divisions among the five permanent members of the UN Security Council.
