“Together or Nothing”: The Touching Testimony of the Wife Who Saved Her Husband’s Life After the Plane Window Shattered Mid-Flight: I Held Him Tight, I Didn’t Let Go

An extremely serious situation marked a Ryanair flight from Thessaloniki to Memmingen, where an airplane window broke off during the flight and caused a passenger to be partially sucked out of the cabin.

Svetlana Grkovic recounted in dramatic tones how she instinctively reacted by grabbing her husband, 61-year-old Ljubisa Karovic, by his lower limbs in those critical seconds. The Serbian nationals were seated next to the window when, about half an hour after takeoff, a powerful bang was followed by damage to the glass and a loss of cabin pressure.

“In those moments, I thought of nothing else but: ‘If we die, we die together,'” she told Serbian media. “The upper part of his body had gone outside the plane, and I held onto him with all my strength.”

Chaos took over the plane completely – the oxygen masks dropped automatically, and the screams of terrified passengers filled the air. Fortunately, several other travelers rushed to help pull the 61-year-old back inside.

The man suffered friction injuries, including burns and wounds to his hand. According to his wife, he remains hospitalized, has had episodes of losing consciousness, and has no memory at all of those moments of terror.

The pilot continued the flight for another 30 minutes before performing an emergency landing, returning to the runway at Thessaloniki Airport.

Through a statement, Ryanair confirmed that the turnaround was dictated by a window becoming detached very soon after takeoff. The airline also clarified that one of the persons on board received medical assistance as soon as the plane touched down and that the group of passengers later departed for their destination on another aircraft.

However, Mrs. Grkovic has leveled strong accusations against the company, emphasizing that none of the crew members engaged to help them during the incident and that Ryanair has still not communicated with them at all.
