Today marks day 128 of citizens’ revolt against the government: Rama’s resignation demanded

The citizens’ protest against the government and Prime Minister Edi Rama is continuing this Monday, entering its 128th consecutive day. After more than four months of daily gatherings, protesters are expected to assemble once again in central Tirana, continuing the action launched months ago with the main demand being the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama.

As in the protests of recent days, citizens are expected to gather first in Skanderbeg Square and then march toward the Prime Minister’s Office.

In addition to Rama’s departure, the demands articulated by protesters include the creation of a transitional technical government and changes to the political system.

The 128th protest comes one day after Sunday’s gathering, when citizens and activists marched from Skanderbeg Square toward the Prime Minister’s Office, chanting, “Rama, resign.” The protesters said they would continue their stand and called on other citizens to join the protest.

Activist Mirjan Aliaj, during the 127th protest against the government, spoke about the protests announced for today. According to him, the protests will take place in front of the Parliament’s Presidium, while another gathering has been announced for 3:00 p.m. near Parliament.

During the 127th gathering, messages were also delivered by representatives of the diaspora, while some protesters accused the government of corruption and called for the justice system to take action against senior officials.

One day earlier, during the 126th protest, after standing in front of the Prime Minister’s Office, citizens marched through several of Tirana’s streets. At the end of the gathering, they announced that the protests would continue and called for greater participation in the days ahead.

Meanwhile, a larger protest has also been announced for October 13, focusing on the participation of students and young people.
