Tirana police prosecute 15 people after protest, accusations of disturbing public order and blocking traffic

Following the gathering held in the capital, Tirana Police have initiated criminal proceedings against 15 people in connection with the civic protest that has been continuing for 28 days in Tirana.

The official statement says they are suspected of the criminal offenses of “Organizing and participating in illegal gatherings and demonstrations,” “Disturbing public order and peace,” and “Obstructing the movement of transport vehicles.”

The individuals under investigation were identified by the initials A. G., G. P., A. T., D. G., L. K., E. S., A. K., E. L., V. D., G. K., A. P., Dh. C., A. B., L. G., and F. K.

According to the investigation, the gathering had been announced to take place from 19:00 to 22:00 in Skanderbeg Square and on the Dëshmorët e Kombit Boulevard, but it later spread to several main roads in Tirana.

Tirana Police say the protesters continued moving along Elbasan Road, in the 9-Katëshet area, in the former Blloku district, and on sections of the Ring Road, causing traffic blockages and exceeding both the officially declared perimeter and time frame.

As part of the investigative actions, one vehicle and two mobile phones were seized as material evidence.

The case file has been forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office for further action.
