Tirana Court releases protesters detained after Monday’s rally

The Tirana Court has ordered the release of the protesters arrested following Monday’s protest in Tirana.

The judicial panel ruled that their arrests were unlawful and did not impose any security measures on the protesters.

They had been detained several days earlier on suspicion of attempting to block vehicle traffic in the Zogu i Zi area during the protest.

Regarding the rally held on 14.09.2026:

– The following citizens were arrested in the act: Ermelind Kuka, 19; Dorjan Balla, 36; Artan Daci, 41; Ervis Beqaj, 36; Ramazan Dauti, 31; Bekim Imeraj, 37; Visuar Dalipi, 29; A.M., 20; Aleandro Ahmetsulaj, 56; Ridvan Kamberi, 63; Klodian Bajrami, 24; and Enrik Xhemalaj, 39;

– The case materials were referred to the Prosecutor’s Office, which initiated proceedings while the following citizens remained at liberty: F. B., 32; B. K., 27; A. Zh., 26; S. E., 32; M. R., 28; A. P., 49; L. B., 39; K. N., 20; F. K., 34; E. N., 33; A. D., 23; E. P., 31; L. P., 26; M. P., 18; and I. M., 28.

“On 14.09.2026, at around 07:30, a group of people gathered in Skanderbeg Square for a rally without the required permit and continued marching toward Durrës Street, where they stopped near a high school and called on students to boycott classes and take part in the rally, breaching the school’s security perimeter.

Despite calls from police officers to leave the school’s security perimeter and clear the sidewalk to allow pedestrians to pass, some of the rally participants failed to comply with the orders and forcibly resisted police officers while being escorted away.

The procedural materials were referred to the Prosecutor’s Office at the Tirana Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction for further action regarding the criminal offenses of ‘Organizing and participating in unlawful gatherings and demonstrations,’ ‘Resisting a public order police officer,’ ‘Failure to comply with a police officer’s order,’ ‘Disturbing the peace,’ and ‘Inciting minors to commit a crime,’” the police statement said.
