Three arrested after fatal accident at Prishtina construction site, Prosecution launches investigation

The Basic Prosecution in Prishtina has activated its investigative mechanisms following a serious incident at a workplace in the capital, where one worker died and another was seriously injured.

According to official data, the incident was reported on July 28, 2026, at around 3:00 p.m. The on-duty prosecutor from the General Department went to the scene without delay, accompanied by Kosovo Police officers, the Regional Investigation Unit, and the Labor Inspectorate.

With authorization from the State Prosecutor, independent occupational safety specialists and a mechanical engineering expert were called to the scene. In parallel, material evidence was collected, security camera footage was confiscated, and the forensics unit conducted an examination of the site.

The Prosecution announced that witnesses who saw what happened were questioned, as well as the surviving victim, who is receiving treatment at the University Clinical Center of Kosovo (UCCK).

As a result of the accident, a citizen with the initials E.Sh. lost his life, while another person suffered serious physical injuries.

In relation to this case, the Prosecution has opened investigations into two criminal offenses: “Causing general danger” and “Destruction, damage, or removal of protective equipment and endangering safety at the workplace,” pursuant to the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kosovo.

Based on initial indications and the evidence gathered so far, the Prosecution has issued a detention order for three individuals.

The individual with the initials A.Sh. was detained on suspicion of the criminal offense “Causing general danger.” Meanwhile, B.S., in the role of the construction firm’s supervisor, and E.E., as a representative of the project’s investment company, are accused of the criminal offense related to endangering safety in the workplace.

The Prosecution has stated that within the legally prescribed deadline, it will review the request for imposing security measures for the suspects and will proceed with all necessary investigative steps to fully clarify the circumstances of this accident.
