These are Chief Prosecutor Gashi’s main priorities for the first 100 days in office

Kosovo’s new Chief Prosecutor, Zejnulla Gashi, has placed financial investigations in high-level corruption cases, organized crime, and money laundering at the center of attention for the next 100 days. These areas will be treated with absolute priority during the first period of his mandate at the helm of the State Prosecutor’s Office.

In his first meeting with the collegium of chief prosecutors, which was also attended by delegates from the British Embassy and the U.S. Embassy’s INL program, Gashi presented the main commitments for this intensive period.

Beyond controlling illicit financial flows, he mentioned the need to ensure citizen safety through a tougher fight against illegal weapon possession, drug trafficking, and property protection. Additionally, increased attention will be given to domestic violence and support for victims of such crimes.

The Chief Prosecutor stressed that special importance will be dedicated to preserving the integrity of investigative processes and personal data, as well as strengthening punitive measures for those who jeopardize road traffic safety.

“These are priorities that address immediate needs and aim to increase effectiveness in criminal prosecution, consolidate the rule of law, and strengthen citizens’ trust in the institution of the State Prosecutor,” Gashi said.

He also announced that a new monitoring structure will be established within the Office of the Chief Prosecutor, which will focus on evaluating the quality of indictments, analyzing acquittals, procedural errors, and the flow of judicial practice.

Likewise, an internal protective mechanism will be put in place for prosecutors who, according to him, are “unfairly attacked” while performing their duties.

Finally, Gashi asked all basic prosecution offices to submit to his Office within a reasonable timeframe a preliminary plan for implementing these major objectives.
