The war with Iran, preliminary analysis: It has cost the US around $40 billion

A preliminary analysis by the Center for Strategic and International Studies estimates that the war with Iran has cost the US Department of Defense approximately $40 billion.

This amount includes costs related to the use of munitions, damage to military equipment, as well as damage caused to military bases.

This estimate does not include operational costs already projected in the Department of Defense budget for fiscal year 2026, which exceeds $1 trillion.

According to Mark Cancian, a senior adviser at CSIS, the main burden of the expenses has been borne by the US Department of Defense. However, the conflict has also generated additional costs for other institutions, including the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Veterans Affairs, which together, according to the same preliminary estimates, are thought to have spent around $1 billion.
