The crossing at Bit Pazar continues to endanger pedestrians, Gjorgjievski announces traffic lights and legalization

For years, the illegal pedestrian crossing at Bit Pazar in Skopje has remained one of the city’s most problematic traffic spots, exposing citizens to the risk of accidents.

Dozens of accidents have been recorded in the area, leaving dozens of people injured, while at least three citizens have lost their lives.

The latest accident was recorded on June 4 this year, when a vehicle hit two pedestrians, a woman and a man, who suffered bodily injuries. /Alsat.mk

Even after the kiosks were removed, their two foundations continue to be used by street vendors at Bit Pazar, obstructing the free movement of citizens. Meanwhile, the unregulated crossing continues to pose a threat to their safety.

Skopje Mayor Orce Gjorgjievski said that pedestrian traffic lights would be installed at this location and that the crossing is expected to be legalized soon. However, he did not give a specific deadline for when a final solution to the problem would be completed.

“After consulting with the citizens there, we will proceed with a legal crossing, while the traffic department is already preparing a real solution that will put that crossing into operation. To avoid chaos and ensure order in the movement of citizens, we are also preparing to install traffic lights for pedestrians who will cross there. I believe that in this way we will solve a problem that has lasted for years. When can citizens expect a solution? The project is being prepared, and as soon as it is finalized, you will be informed,” said Orce Gjorgjievski, Mayor of the City of Skopje.
