Thaçi’s lawyer announces appeal: A dark day for international justice, Kosovo’s Assembly must react

Pierre-Richard Prosper, Hashim Thaçi’s lawyer, described the decision against his client as a “mockery of justice” and confirmed that the defense would challenge it through an appeal.

According to Prosper, the outcome of the trial had been predetermined. He accused the Specialist Chambers of rewriting history by portraying the KLA as an organized structure and holding Thaçi responsible.

After the verdict was announced, the lawyer said that this represented a dark day for international justice and marked the end of tribunals.

Prosper said that he had communicated with Thaçi and would hold another meeting with him.

He said that Thaçi greatly appreciates the support of the citizens and is ready to continue the fight for himself and Kosovo.

The lawyer added that he could face trouble over his comments, but recounted that he had punched himself in the head when the judge uttered the words “in the name of the people of Kosovo.” According to him, the court did not listen to the defense.

Prosper called on Kosovo’s Parliament to review the matter, stressing that the Specialist Chambers were the result of a partnership between the European Union and Kosovo’s Parliament. He said that, if it were up to him, support would be withdrawn the very next day.

According to the lawyer, Kosovo must make a sovereign decision, because under certain circumstances one must stand up and make a decision.

In conclusion, Prosper expressed his conviction that Thaçi would be released at some point, while emphasizing that the battle and the war would continue.
