Before the plenary session, the Conference of Chairpersons is expected to meet at 11:00 a.m. During the meeting, the draft work program of Parliament and the draft calendar of proceedings for the coming period will be reviewed and approved.
The inaugural session is expected to be largely ceremonial, while substantive parliamentary work will begin after the work program and calendar have been set.
During the new session, political attention is expected to focus on electoral reform and administrative-territorial reform.
To change the current organization of local government units, the Socialist Party has submitted a proposal calling for the number of municipalities to be reduced from 61 to 46.
The proposal has sparked opposition, particularly in municipalities that could be merged with other local government units. For this reason, territorial reform is expected to be one of the main topics of political debate during the session.
Meanwhile, electoral reform is also expected to return to Parliament’s agenda. A protest rally has been announced outside the Parliament building, while police are expected to put security measures in place, including police barriers, as in previous protests. Organizers have called on protesters to throw eggs and tomatoes at MPs.
