Tense protest outside the Assembly over Specialist Chambers law, truck placed at entrance

A protest outside the Kosovo Assembly, organized against amendments to the Law on the Specialist Chambers, has been accompanied by tensions.

During the gathering, several participants clashed with members of the Kosovo Police. Meanwhile, a truck was placed near the Assembly entrance, with the aim of blocking the road and restricting traffic.

A citizen participating in the protest said the clash with the police had been caused by a misunderstanding. He also explained that the truck had been brought to prevent deputies from leaving if the law on the Specialist Chambers was not approved.

“We came out to do our job, and the police to do theirs. We had a misunderstanding with the police. The reason the truck was placed there is to prevent the deputies from leaving if the law on the Specialist Chambers is not voted on,” he said.

Protesters are calling on deputies to support the proposed amendments to the Law on the Specialist Chambers of Kosovo.

As a result of the protest and the situation that developed, access to the Assembly building and movement in the surrounding area have become more difficult.

The gathering is being held at a time when the Assembly is expected to consider amendments to the legal framework for the Specialist Chambers, an issue that has sparked reactions and political clashes in the country.
