Tahiri criticizes lack of reflection on the election of the president

Besnik Tahiri, head of the Alliance’s parliamentary group, said the Vetëvendosje Movement was showing no reflection on the election of Kosovo’s president.

Speaking after a session of the Kosovo Assembly, he said the situation was continuing to repeat itself, with no significant changes.

With only eight days left before the election of a new president, Tahiri stressed that Kosovo needed a serious approach, not a disregard for the reality on the ground.

Tahiri said the political debate had focused on accusations and labels, while the country’s concrete problems were being pushed aside. He cited disputes over who was a patriot or a spy, left-wing or right-wing, as well as arguments about who was doing more or crying more, describing the latter as crocodile tears. He said that by October 6, the country must decide whether to go to elections or continue its state-building journey, and that reflection was needed before a decision was made. “I do not see a serious process; I do not see reflection on the situation. I see the continuation of a situation that keeps repeating itself,” he said.

Tahiri also commented on the declaration concerning the four former KLA leaders, which was adopted by the Assembly. He called it a belated initiative, but one of great importance for advancing a state agenda, both for the country and for the four in The Hague.

In his view, the session was important but should have been held earlier. Tahiri said the state-level political declaration adopted by lawmakers was the least the Kosovo Assembly could do, since party members had made commitments from day one. He added that this was a state commitment by the people’s representatives and recalled that the Alliance had called for the declaration, saying he was pleased with the political entity’s contribution and its help in advancing an agenda in support of the state and the four liberators.
