Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) MP Arian Tahiri appeared at the square where a protest is being held in support of the adoption of the Law on Specialist Chambers. He was joined by Altin Krasniqi, the son of former Assembly speaker and former KLA commander Jakup Krasniqi.

Speaking to the media, Tahiri condemned the use of tear gas against protesters, saying that citizens were expressing their demands calmly and with dignity, calling for the law to be adopted.
He described the violence and use of gas against the citizens of Kosovo as unacceptable, saying they were protesting proudly and chanting “KLA, KLA.” Tahiri said the demand for the law to be put to a vote was reasonable, essential and necessary under the current circumstances.
Tahiri explained that he and Krasniqi had remained in the square, while the other PDK MPs were in the Assembly. According to him, this was in line with the protesters’ demand that MPs remain in the institution and adopt the law.
“I am here together with Altin, while our other colleagues are in the Assembly of Kosovo. This is in line with the citizens’ demand that MPs be in the Assembly today and vote on the law in its entirety,” he said.
The MP recalled that the Law on Specialist Chambers had already been approved at first reading. He called for the procedure to be completed by voting on it at second reading as well.
Tahiri said the proposed motion on the matter had failed to secure the necessary support and stressed that only a few hours remained. For this reason, he called on Vetëvendosje and Albin Kurti to return to the Assembly and vote on the law.
According to the PDK MP, the adoption of this law should be treated as a separate issue and should not be conditioned on the process of electing the president.
“This law represents a national and institutional obligation for all of us. We must return to the Assembly as soon as possible, remain there and adopt it,” Tahiri said.
He rejected any attempt to link the law to the election of the president, emphasizing that these were two separate processes. Tahiri said the issue of the president should not be turned into a tool for political bargaining, because the law was a national obligation, while the election of the president was a political responsibility.
In conclusion, Tahiri called on the political parties to reach a consensus on the election of the president, but stressed that priority remained the vote on the Law on Specialist Chambers.
“Under these circumstances, it would be useful to find consensus and reach an agreement on the president. Nevertheless, the most important thing is for the law to be put to a vote,” he concluded.
