Tahiri calls for immediate approval of the Special Chambers: Is violence or escalation being awaited?

Besnik Tahiri, head of the Alliance parliamentary group, has called on the Vetevendosje Movement and all members of the Kosovo Assembly to return the draft law on the Specialist Chambers to the floor without delay and proceed with its second reading.

According to Tahiri, there is no reason to delay this process, as the draft law received the support of a majority of lawmakers in its first reading.

He warned that any further delay could lead to an escalation of the situation and called for the law to be put to an immediate vote for its second reading.

Tahiri questioned what the majority and LVV were waiting for, stressing that the draft law had already been approved in its first reading with the support of the Vetevendosje Movement, the Democratic Party as its sponsor, the Alliance and the minority communities. He said that, given the increasingly worrying situation around the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, there was no reason for the law not to be returned for a vote.

According to him, there should be no waiting for a major incident or an escalation of the situation. Tahiri issued an urgent appeal to LVV and lawmakers to return to the chamber and approve the law in its second reading, referring to Articles 85 and 123 of the Rules of Procedure. He stressed that the public and political commitments had already been made and that the Alliance was calling for the law to be brought forward immediately, as there was no justification for delaying it.

Tahiri clarified that, in his assessment, the current deadlock was not related to any political agreement with the Alliance, but to the second reading and the president.

He said that the Alliance had made its position clear very early on, while it had not been invited to or taken part in any meeting. Tahiri added that his political entity was following with concern the situation inside and outside the Assembly of Kosovo.
