Tabaku opposes Bardhi and Balliu’s 60-day suspension, while Blushi clashes with Peleshi and Balla at the Conference of Chairpersons

The meeting of the Conference of Chairpersons was marked by objections and accusations against the parliamentary majority. Democratic Party MP Jorida Tabaku opposed the 60-day suspension of Gazment Bardhi and Klevis Balliu, while Freedom Party representative Tedi Blushi called on Parliament to respond to the alleged violation of the opposition’s rights and threats against MPs.

At the center of Tabaku’s remarks was the Ethics Committee’s decision concerning Gazment Bardhi, chairman of the Democratic Party’s parliamentary group, and MP Klevis Balliu. She called the measure unacceptable, arguing that Parliament’s Rules of Procedure allow for a 60-day suspension only in specific cases.

According to the Democratic MP, the decision approved by the Ethics Committee the previous day was entirely contrary to the Rules of Procedure. Tabaku said it demonstrated a lack of appreciation and sensitivity toward respecting them.

Her objections also included proposals to revise the work program and the parliamentary calendar. She pointed out that Parliament’s agenda is already packed with draft laws, interpellations and the review of the budget.

Instead of intervening in the calendar, Tabaku called for priority to be given to interpellations and draft laws whose consideration had been postponed from previous sessions.

Tedi Blushi’s intervention led to a debate with Parliament Speaker Niko Peleshi and the chairman of the Socialist Party’s parliamentary group, Taulant Balla. The Freedom Party representative leveled strong accusations against the parliamentary majority.

According to Blushi, the majority is violating the opposition’s constitutional rights and using Parliament to pass decisions that harm citizens’ interests. He described the institution as a notary and tailor for what he called criminal acts and laws commissioned by Edi Rama.

Blushi described the suspension of opposition MPs as a denial of their rights and a step that deepens violations of the Constitution.

He also opposed the approval of the territorial map, describing it as a depopulation map. In this context, he called on citizens to react to the majority’s decision-making.

During the discussion, Blushi also raised allegations of threats and blackmail against MPs in connection with parliamentary votes. Referring to Erion Braçe and Elisa Spiropali, he claimed that both had said they had been threatened or blackmailed.

Regarding these allegations, Blushi called on Parliament to take a position and investigate the matter. According to him, threatening MPs constitutes an extremely serious criminal act that must be investigated.

He also criticized security during plenary sessions. Blushi referred to armored vehicles, metal fences and the increased police presence near Parliament, describing these measures as signs of a dictatorial situation.

Another request from the Freedom Party representative was for Parliament to state its position on the conflict between the Special Court and the National Chamber of Advocacy. He argued that this situation could have consequences for due process.
