Switzerland Pledges Around €68 Million for Kosovo, Kurti Expresses Gratitude to Ambassador Sprecher

Albin Kurti, the acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, held a farewell meeting with Switzerland’s ambassador, Jurg Sprecher, who is concluding his diplomatic mandate in the country.

During the meeting, Kurti expressed his appreciation to the Swiss diplomat for the close coordination and assistance he provided in deepening ties between the two countries.

“I am grateful to him for the close cooperation and his prominent role in maintaining excellent relations and consolidating the partnership between our countries,” Kurti said.

The head of government stressed that Switzerland has remained one of Kosovo’s main supporters since its liberation, throughout the process of gaining independence and along the entire path of institutional consolidation of the state.

“From liberation and independence to the building and strengthening of the institutions of our Republic, Switzerland continues to be one of Kosovo’s most important supporters,” he said.

Kurti also highlighted the importance of the Albanian community in Switzerland, describing it as an essential connecting pillar between the two peoples and states.

He went on to predict new momentum in economic and trade relations between the two countries following the entry into force of the free trade agreement under the umbrella of EFTA.

“Our dear diaspora forms the foundation of this strong connection, which is gradually and steadily deepening economic cooperation and trade flows between us,” he added.

During the discussions, Kurti also mentioned Switzerland’s engagement within KFOR, as well as the activities of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).

He announced that for the 2026-2029 cycle, Swiss authorities have pledged more than 64 million Swiss francs (CHF), or around €68 million, for Kosovo. This amount follows a commitment of CHF 88 million for the 2022-2025 period.
