Suspicions of fatal poisoning in a family in the US, grandmother accused of killing her daughter and four grandchildren before taking her own life

A grim incident has shaken New York state, where six members of the same family were found dead in a home.

According to US authorities, Amy Steedman, 64, is suspected of first killing her 44-year-old daughter, Sarah Myers, along with her four grandchildren, before later taking her own life.

Inside the home, police found a handwritten note which, according to investigators, points to the 64-year-old’s involvement in the deaths of her daughter and the four children: 13-year-old Harper, 11-year-old Hudson, and 10-year-old twins Gavin and Gracelyn.

Initial investigations indicate that three of the children were poisoned, while another also had knife wounds. Inside the house, many prescription and over-the-counter medications were found, as well as evidence that, according to authorities, suggests deliberate poisoning. Police sources said investigators also discovered syringes, raising suspicions that the children may have been injected with poisonous substances.

The victims were discovered on Tuesday evening after a neighbor notified police that she had not seen the 64-year-old for several days. When officers entered the home, they found the six lifeless bodies, which were in an advanced stage of decomposition.

According to the investigative line, the suspected cause of this tragedy is linked to a court decision that transferred custody of the four children to their father, Brandy Harmon. The decision was expected to take effect only a few days later, and authorities believe this may have influenced the 64-year-old to commit the extreme act.

The children’s father, who lives in Utah and had not seen them since 2019, said he was getting ready to welcome them home when he received the tragic phone call from police.

“I went from the joy of knowing I would see my children to the fact that I will never see them again,” he said, as he blamed his former mother-in-law for the incident and claimed that his ex-wife had prevented him for years from maintaining regular contact with the children.

Police said that so far there is no evidence indicating the involvement of any other person in the incident, while the investigation to fully clarify the circumstances is still ongoing.
