Storm in Kosovo claims one life and injures two people – Police details for “Bota sot”

For the second consecutive day, bad weather with powerful storms has hit Kosovo, leaving severe consequences in several of its regions.

A tragic event has been recorded in the village of Pozheran in Vitia, where a citizen lost his life due to circumstances created by the bad weather, while two other residents suffered minor injuries.

The spokesperson of the Regional Police Directorate in Gjilan, Valon Osmani, stated to “Bota sot” that the deceased, a man born in 1965, is believed to have sustained fatal injuries after accidentally falling on the balcony of his residence.

“Around 16:30 on July 21, 2026, the severe weather conditions led to an incident in Pozheran of Vitia, where a male citizen, born in 1965, is thought to have slipped on the floor of his house balcony and hit his head,” Osmani announced.

He added that the injured person was rushed to the General Hospital of Gjilan, but the duty doctor found that the patient had arrived lifeless.

According to him, police teams immediately arrived at the scene and have launched investigative procedures to clarify the exact circumstances.

“Our police forces, in coordination with the State Prosecutor, are carrying out all investigative actions to fully shed light on the circumstances of this event,” Osmani emphasized.

He announced that by decision of the prosecutor, the body was sent for autopsy to the Institute of Forensic Medicine in the capital.

The storm also caused the wounding of two other people in the same locality.

“At the same time, two men from Pozheran suffered minor injuries when the entrance doors of their yards were knocked down by the force of the weather,” Osmani explained to “Bota sot”.

Both injured received medical attention at the Emergency Center of the hospital in Gjilan and were then allowed to return home.

Finally, spokesperson Osmani called on the population to exercise maximum caution during these dangerous conditions, to avoid unnecessary outings in the affected areas, and to obey the instructions of the authorities.
