Specialized Prosecution rejects Thaçi’s conditional release request, turns down 50,000 euro offer

The Specialized Prosecution has dismissed the request filed by Hashim Thaçi’s lawyers, which sought the temporary release of the former Kosovo president from the detention center. In this official response, it was stressed that he must remain in custody.

Kimberly West, the American lead prosecutor, argued that the previously identified risks remain fully intact and there are no measures that can satisfactorily mitigate them. She noted that there are well-founded concerns about the commission of new crimes, as well as attempts to obstruct the judicial process.

According to her, earlier assessments based on a series of reasoned and personal circumstances remain valid and constitute sufficient grounds to justify the continuation of the security measure.

Another argument raised by Prosecutor West was the steady and swift pace of the court proceedings. This fact, together with the deadlines set for the examination of final evidentiary requests, reinforces the necessity of the accused’s detention.
