Specialist Chambers publish full judgment in Thaçi and others case

The Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague have made public the full version of the judgment issued today in the trial against Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi, and Jakup Krasniqi.

According to the Trial Panel’s findings, all four accused bear criminal responsibility for war crimes related to the arbitrary detention of 385 persons, cruel treatment of 49 persons, torture of 303 persons, and unlawful killing of 96 persons.

However, the Trial Panel acquitted them of crimes against humanity, as the Specialist Prosecutor failed to prove beyond reasonable doubt that a widespread or systematic attack was committed against a civilian population. The accused were also acquitted of certain other incidents classified as war crimes.

Hashim Thaçi was sentenced to 25 years in prison, while Kadri Veseli was sentenced to 18 years in prison. Rexhep Selimi was sentenced to 13 years in prison and Jakup Krasniqi to 25 years in prison. These sentences include the time spent in pre-trial detention.
