Shocking testimony of an elderly woman from Kosovo: “They shot at us with tanks, they burned our house.”

A broken voice, yet full of strength, has emerged from oblivion through the Institute of Crimes Committed During the War in Kosovo (IKKL). An elderly woman painfully recounts how she was violently uprooted from her home, an episode that brings back the cycles of past wounds.

Recalling those moments of terror, she describes how the attacking forces used heavy weaponry against her family, forcing them to flee. In a bone-chilling sentence, she remembers: “They shot at us with tanks… they burned our house…”

Through this publication, the IKKL has highlighted the weight of the evidence proving how the defenseless population endured the most brutal consequences of the conflict, from homes reduced to ashes to mass displacement and the struggle for survival in inhuman conditions.
