Maria Spinelli had arrived in Switzerland only about a month earlier, with the aim of starting a new chapter in her life. She had found work there as a waitress, but the 22-year-old’s plans were tragically cut short during a rave party in Aarau.

Born in Atri, in the province of Teramo, Maria grew up and lived in Città Sant’Angelo, in the Pescara area. In October, she would have celebrated her 23rd birthday.

After completing her studies at the Zolli hotel management school in Silvi, the young woman decided to leave Italy to seek opportunities abroad.

In Switzerland, she had started working as a waitress and was trying to build a new future far from her hometown. Despite the change in her life, Maria continued to pursue her passion for techno music.

That passion had accompanied her in Abruzzo as well, where she often went out with friends to clubs in the Pescara area. On the fateful night, too, the 22-year-old had gone dancing at a rave event with her friends.

The evening of music and friends suddenly turned into a scene of tragedy when gunfire was opened on the crowd. Maria lost her life, while five other people were injured.

After the incident, a tattoo on her body took on a painful meaning. It bore the phrase “Good luck,” which appeared to reflect her desire to move forward and start a new life.

Maria Spinelli’s death has shocked her family, friends and the communities where she had lived. Representatives of Italian institutions have also conveyed their condolences to the family.

The President of the Abruzzo Region, Marco Marsilio, expressed his sorrow over the death of the 22-year-old and stood with her family, friends and the communities of Atri and Città Sant’Angelo during this difficult time.

Maria had left Abruzzo to seek an opportunity and build her future. Just one month after setting off for Switzerland, her life came to a tragic end during a night that was supposed to be an ordinary celebration among friends and the music she loved.
