Shasivari to Consult Students and Deans on Solution for the Bar Exam

Justice Minister Jeton Shasivari announced that he will soon meet with students and deans of law faculties before the final solution for the bar exam is formalized. Speaking to Alsat, he said the proposal remains the one previously made public, while noting that the Ministry has received requests for the exam to be held not only in Albanian but also in English and Turkish.

According to Shasivari, the Ministry is also awaiting a request from the State University of Tetovo, the first Albanian-language university. After that, the Ministry will organize a consultative and informational meeting with representatives of student organizations and deans of law faculties.

“We are also awaiting a request from the first Albanian-language university, namely the State University of Tetovo, and in the coming period we will organize this consultative and informational meeting with representatives of student associations and deans of law faculties. This dialogue is also very important for addressing the practical issues involved in organizing the bar exam in several languages. These include the exam materials, legal literature, legal provisions, exam questions, professional assessment criteria and translation,” Minister Shasivari told Alsat.

The minister aims to convince students that the proposal represents progress, even though they have opposed it because it stipulates that the theoretical section be held in their native language, while the practical section would be held in Macedonian.

“I am confident that, with both a professional and institutional explanation, students and future candidates will understand that this represents progress and an inclusive approach,” Shasivari added.

Responding to the students’ demand that the issue be regulated solely through a decision, without legislative amendments, Shasivari said there should be no experimentation. He insisted that the solution must be sustainable and long-term, stressing that the bar exam would be held without language barriers.

“Our approach is a long-term one. We are not dragging out the process; rather, we have developed a solution that is sustainable and in accordance with the Constitution, the laws in force and international standards,” Shasivari stated.

Meanwhile, representatives of the student initiative told Alsat yesterday that their position remains unchanged: the bar exam must be held in Albanian in both the theoretical and practical sections. They warned that protests would continue if their demands were not met. /Alsat/
