Shasivari reaffirms alliance with the USA for justice and anti-corruption

Minister of Justice Jeton Shasivari today hosted a meeting with Nicole Varns, Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy. During the conversation, both sides emphasized the continuation of the enduring partnership between the Ministry and the United States, as a key ally in the justice sector reform process, the Ministry of Justice announced.

Discussions focused on the key issues of the Ministry’s agenda, particularly highlighting the transformation of the judicial system through digitalization, advancement of the rule of law, legislative agenda, and tackling the phenomenon of corruption. In this context, Minister Shasivari expressed the request to facilitate knowledge sharing and engagement of U.S. expertise in the future, with a special focus on improving criminal laws.

The Justice Minister highly praised the ongoing contribution of the U.S. to the department he leads and the reform processes in the country. He underlined that this assistance plays a crucial role in strengthening state institutions, especially in the fight against international organized crime networks and in deepening relations between domestic bodies and global partners.

Another central point of the meeting was the renewal of the penal code, which continues to be a strategic objective of the Ministry. It was emphasized that implementation has already begun for the project “Support for the implementation of the National Drug Strategy in the Republic of North Macedonia,” which is financially supported by the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) of the U.S. Department of State.
