Shar Mountain National Park installs barriers in mountain areas to stop motor vehicles

The administration of Shar Mountain National Park has taken concrete measures to restrict the entry of motor vehicles into protected mountain areas. Fences and barriers have been installed in certain sections to prevent traffic in territories where such activity is not permitted.

The decision was made after previous appeals to the owners of quad bikes, motorcycles and other motor vehicles to remain only on designated trails and not enter strictly protected areas failed to produce the expected results.

According to the Shar Mountain National Park Public Enterprise, park rangers have blocked several unauthorized roads in the Jellak area and at Vodno Mountain, to enable more effective control. Some of these entrances had previously also been closed using machinery by the Army of the Republic of North Macedonia, while the latest interventions are intended to stop unauthorized movement. Driving outside permitted roads damages the soil and mountain pastures, disturbs wildlife, creates difficulties for shepherds and their flocks, and also affects hikers and visitors who go to the mountains to enjoy the peace and safety of nature.
