Shahram Sadeghi, sentenced for attacking police during January protests, executed in Iran

Shahram Sadeghi has been executed in Iran after being found guilty and sentenced to death for attacking police forces during the mass anti-government protests held in January. The news was announced by Iran’s judicial news agency.

“Sahram Sadeghi, who was sentenced to death for acting in favor of the Zionist regime and the United States, was executed this morning,” Mizan reported.

According to the same source, on January 8 in Karaj, west of Tehran, Sadeghi used his vehicle to strike police officers, injuring seven of them.

The number of executions in Iran has risen since the war began following the United States and Israel’s attack on the country on February 28. Those executed have also included individuals convicted of taking part in protests.

The protests began in late December, fueled by the rising cost of living, and later turned into large demonstrations against the government. They peaked on January 8 and 9.

Iranian authorities have said that more than 3,000 people have lost their lives, blaming the violence on “terrorist acts” that they claim were organized by the United States and Israel.

Meanwhile, non-governmental organizations based outside Iran report a brutal crackdown, with thousands of victims. According to Iran Human Rights and Ensemble contre la peine de mort (ECPM), Iranian authorities executed at least 1,639 people during 2025, the highest figure recorded since 1989.

Human rights organizations, including Amnesty International, say Iran ranks second in the world in the number of executions, after China.
