September Brings the Return of Hot Weather, Italian Experts Warn of Another “Heat Dome

After some rainfall and isolated storms that may occur as September begins, particularly in mountainous areas, Italy is preparing for the sixth African heatwave. According to La Republicca, this situation is expected to be only a temporary interruption before high temperatures return.

Meteorologists’ forecasts indicate that temperatures will remain above seasonal averages. In Rome, they could rise again to 36–37 degrees Celsius, while from Thursday a powerful high-pressure system, known as a “Heat Dome,” could spread over Italy and large parts of Europe. The affected areas could include Germany, Switzerland, France and Austria.

Over the weekend, the African high-pressure system is expected to prevail, while autumn officially begins on September 23. In northern Italy, the deviation from seasonal average temperatures could be particularly pronounced. In Milan, the thermometer could reach 36°C, an unusual level for September which, if confirmed, could break the historical temperature record for this period.

Meteorologists hope that the lengthening nights will help gradually reduce this unusual heat and bring relief after an extraordinary summer.
