Security cooperation between Kosovo and North Macedonia deepens

​​Kosovo’s Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Sveçla, and Deputy Minister Enver Dugolli hosted their counterpart from North Macedonia, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Astrit Iseni, on an official visit.

During the talks, both sides expressed high appreciation for the existing relations, particularly highlighting the successful coordination between the two ministries of internal affairs.

Deputy Minister Dugolli stressed the necessity of this cooperation in addressing common challenges in the security and rule-of-law sectors, reaffirming the ministry’s commitment to creating a safer environment for citizens.

Another important topic of discussion was the bilateral agreements on border crossing points and facilitating movement for communities living in the border areas of both countries.

During his stay, the delegation visited the National Border Management Center, where it was briefed in detail on Kosovo’s border-control systems and procedures, with particular emphasis on points directly related to North Macedonia.

The visit’s program also included the Kosovo Academy for Public Safety, where the officials were informed about the training curricula dedicated to members of the police, correctional service, customs authorities and firefighting brigades.

At the academy, the two deputy ministers held a separate meeting with cadets Jetlum Bunjaku and Sokol Zymberi. Both young men are sons of Kosovo Police martyrs Afrim Bunjaku and Enver Zymberi, and aim to continue their parents’ legacy in the service of public order and security.

The visit concluded at the Civil Registration Agency, where the guests were briefed on steps taken to modernize and accelerate services for citizens through advanced digitization projects.

In conclusion, Deputy Minister Iseni thanked his hosts for the warm welcome and confirmed North Macedonia’s full commitment to advancing initiatives aimed at consolidating stability and security in both countries.

He also emphasized the strategic importance of an uninterrupted fight against criminal networks that operate on both sides of the border and often interact closely with one another.
