The Social Democratic Union of Macedonia (SDSM) is calling on the prosecutor’s office to launch an investigation into Alta Bank’s entry into the Macedonian market. The party claims that Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski made the decision.
According to SDSM spokesperson Bogdanka Kuzeska, a statement by National Bank Governor Trajko Slaveski confirms, in the party’s assessment, that the decision was politically influenced.

SDSM is calling for scrutiny of the origin of the capital, the movement of funds and the decision-making process concerning the bank. It also wants the European Public Prosecutor’s Office to be involved in the investigation.
The opposition party also raises questions about Mickoski’s role in contacts with potential buyers of the bank and whether such involvement undermines the independence of the National Bank.
