SDSM calls for a €600 minimum wage: Mickoski lives in luxury while workers earn around 26,000 denars

SDSM has submitted a bill to Parliament for the third time to raise the minimum wage to €600, or 36,960 denars.

According to the party, the current wage of around 26,000 denars is not enough to cover living expenses. It points out that the trade union basket costs around 70,000 denars, while families paying rent or a housing loan spend more than 90,000 denars per month.

SDSM says that almost the entire minimum wage goes toward food and soft drinks, while transport, clothing, education and health services create additional costs for families.

The opposition has criticized Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski for his luxurious lifestyle and accused the government of spending millions of euros on celebrations, an aircraft, official vehicles, furniture and privileges, instead of using these funds to raise wages.

The party claims that the budget has sufficient funds, but calls for spending on officials to be reduced and the money directed toward workers, as well as protecting their standard of living.

According to SDSM’s assessment, a wage of €600 is the minimum that would enable workers to live with dignity from their work.
