SDSM Accuses Siljanovska-Davkova of Silence on Gruevski and Latas and Support for VMRO-DPMNE Policies

President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova has brought the issue of the Electoral Code back into focus, assessing that the current system places the diaspora in a discriminatory position. According to the opposition SDSM, however, her statements raise more dilemmas than they clarify.

SDSM asked why the president signed the decree abolishing the technical government if she supports such a government as a guarantee of fair elections. They also questioned why she did not herself submit a proposal for a new technical government model if she genuinely sought clean elections.

The opposition party also seeks clarification of her position on electronic voting. According to SDSM, the president has not clearly articulated the problems with this system, while VMRO-OKG continues to insist on a model which, as she herself acknowledges, is used in only two or three countries.

“When it is known who is running the country – Mickoski and the organised crime group VMRO-DPMNE – introducing a dangerous voting model is like handing the keys to a safe to a convicted bank robber and hoping that nothing will go wrong,” SDSM stated.

The opposition recalls that the president comes from a party that, according to them, has organised election fraud. Even if she did not participate directly, SDSM says, she bears the same responsibility for remaining silent.

According to SDSM, her role as president of all citizens should not be reduced to protocol, dancing and yoga, but should include a commitment to equality before the law for every citizen of Macedonia.

The party stresses that Siljanovska-Davkova, as a law professor who has already acknowledged that the Prespa Agreement protects national identity and language, could and should have stated openly that the release of Nikola Gruevski and their media chief, Dragan Pavlovic Latas, is catastrophic for all citizens.

According to them, this action proves that the law is not applied equally to everyone. SDSM adds that the president could also have reacted to the return of the “White Palace”, property which they say was acquired through crime and corruption, considering it an unprecedented precedent in any European country.

Instead, SDSM says, the president has chosen to address only those parts of the Electoral Code that suit the interests of VMRO-DPMNE.

“This is not concern for the diaspora. This is a selective political stance that protects the regime, not the interests of citizens,” SDSM said.
