SDSM accuses Mickoski and Klekovski of spreading panic: full report on Gostivar water still missing

The Social Democratic Union of Macedonia says that six weeks have passed, but an official, complete and signed document on the quality of the water in Gostivar has still not been made public.

According to the opposition, the lack of clear information is fueling uncertainty and mistrust among citizens. For this reason, SDSM is asking Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski and the director of the Institute of Public Health, Shaban Klekovski, to explain why the full report has not been published.

The Social Democratic Party recalls that different notices were issued about the condition of the water over the course of a month. Restrictions were initially imposed, then it was stated that the water could be used for technical purposes, while later there was talk of the presence of new bacteria and viruses. In the end, citizens were assured that the water was safe to drink, but the full document was never made available.

SDSM claims that, after 22 days of contaminated water and around 5,000 people falling ill, residents have the right to see all the samples, laboratory analyses, dates, bacteria and recorded values, as well as the institutions that conducted the testing.

The opposition is also demanding clarification on who declared Gostivar’s water safe for consumption, on the basis of which results that decision was made and who signed it.

“The safety of drinking water is a public health issue, therefore all information must be published in a single, complete report signed by the responsible officials,” SDSM emphasizes.
