SCPC examines potential conflict of interest in organization of Macedonia’s 35th independence anniversary

The State Commission for the Prevention of Corruption (SCPC) has opened a case concerning a potential conflict of interest in the organization of celebrations marking the 35th anniversary of Macedonia’s independence. At the same time, the financing of the event is also being scrutinized, while the relevant institutions have been urged to intervene if irregularities are found.

SCPC representatives told TV24 that the case was opened on the Commission’s own initiative after receiving information and concerns a member of the body responsible for selecting the celebration program.

SCPC President Adem Çuçul explained that the institution is handling the matter within its legal powers and in its role as a preventive body. According to him, this is not a separate investigation into the entire case, but a review of the potential conflict of interest involving a person identified as both a member of the Commission and a performer.

The matter concerns Nikolçe Micevski, chairman of the Evaluation Commission, who is also listed as the author of the orchestrations for Jose Carreras’ performance as part of the program.

Çuçul said that the SCPC is monitoring public reactions and demands for transparency in the use of public funds, while the case remains under review. He called on investigative bodies to initiate proceedings if violations of the law are identified during the process.

“The case is being analyzed, and we are also following media headlines and citizens’ reactions. We expect the other responsible institutions, particularly the investigative bodies, to monitor the situation and, if they determine that illegal acts have been committed, to open proceedings in accordance with their powers,” Adem Çuçul said./Telegrafi/
