Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan Form Defense Alliance: Strike Against One Will Be Considered an Attack on All Three

Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan have signed a new mutual defense agreement stipulating that any attack on one of them will be considered an attack against all three countries.

The document was signed in Mecca during a meeting attended by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

According to a joint statement by the governments, the pact aims to “strengthen collective deterrence against any act of aggression,” while deepening cooperation among the three countries in the defense sector.

The principle established in the agreement resembles NATO’s collective defense mechanism, under which an attack on one member is treated as a threat to the entire alliance. The agreement comes at a time when Saudi Arabia is facing several security challenges in the region and the three countries are seeking to increase their military and strategic coordination.

The fact that the pact was signed in Mecca carries special significance, as the city is recognized as Islam’s holiest site.

Saudi Arabia ranks among the world’s largest oil exporters, while Pakistan is the only Muslim country with nuclear weapons.

The three governments also said that the agreement is based on historical ties, shared strategic objectives and continued cooperation in the field of defense.
