Saranda attack, Ina Zhupa: Revenge killings and executions continue in the heart of the city, authorities have taken no action since July 2025

Democratic Party MP Ina Zhupa has reacted to the killing in Saranda, expressing concern over the worsening crime situation in the city.

According to her, clashes between two rival groups began in July 2025 and have resulted in four serious incidents, including shootings, killings with explosives and the use of firearms in the city center.

Zhupa asked the State Police what measures it is taking to break this cycle of revenge. She warned that Saranda residents cannot wait for a fifth incident or until the next victim is an innocent citizen.

The MP emphasized that a passerby was also wounded today and wished them a speedy recovery.

In her statement, Zhupa said the situation could no longer be treated merely as a matter of crime statistics, but as a failure of public safety in Saranda.

She criticized the State Police leadership, stressing that statements made after incidents or announcements of proceedings are not enough when crimes that have been foreshadowed and anticipated go unsolved and unprevented because of incompetence.

“The police must intervene before a crime occurs, rather than showing up only after it has been committed,” Zhupa said.

According to the MP, Saranda cannot remain under the control of gangs, guns and revenge killings. She stressed that citizens have the right to live in safety, while the state has an obligation to provide it.

In conclusion, Zhupa described the responsible authorities as failures and called for a complete overhaul of the Saranda Police leadership structure.
