Salianji Criticizes Rama Over Offer to Spain and France: Our Firefighters Fight Flames With Branches While You Pose as Europe’s “Savior”

Ervin Salianji, a former Democratic Party MP, has sharply criticized Prime Minister Edi Rama following his statement that Albania is ready to assist European countries in fighting wildfires.

In a social media post, Salianji said the situation was “not something to laugh about, but enough to make you throw up your hands in despair.” He accused Rama of failing to govern the country and using propaganda to portray himself as Europe’s “savior.”

Salianji said firefighters in Albania have been left without the necessary vehicles and equipment, forcing them in many cases to battle the flames with tree branches or wait for rain. Meanwhile, he said, the prime minister is touting Albania’s readiness to help other countries.

“Solidarity with friendly countries, but Edi Rama is engaging in propaganda by volunteering himself as a ‘savior’ for France and Spain,” the former Democratic Party MP wrote.

In his response, Salianji said Rama had “set Albania on fire” through misgovernment, a lack of investment, the abandonment of public services, corruption and the criminalization of the administration, while now, according to him, presenting himself as Europe’s savior.

He added that Rama had reduced his government to one “with its trousers around its ankles” and was now making a mockery of its capacity to save Europe.

Emphasizing that the government has neglected investment, public services and emergency management capacity, Salianji called on the prime minister to step down: “Resign so that Albania can have the capacity to protect its citizens, forests and their property!”
