Risteski: Digital card will end students’ waits at counters

Students may soon be able to use public transport free of charge through a digital card. According to Ljupço Risteski from the City of Skopje, preparations for the implementation of this system are nearing completion, thanks to the commitment of the Mayor of the City of Skopje and the management of the Public Transport Service.

With the activation of the new card, students will no longer need to report to their faculty for confirmation, wait in line at Public Transport Service counters, or carry paper documents, Risteski said.

He described this as a change long sought by students, stressing that the need for such a solution is justified.

According to him, the city has taken students’ concerns into account and is providing a solution to an administrative procedure that for years has consumed their time and energy. Risteski underlined that every student understands this, having been forced to wait first for confirmation and then for card validation, especially at the start of the academic year, when, in addition to lectures and exercises, other university obligations must also be fulfilled.

Students will be informed in a timely manner about the start date of the application and how to activate the digital card. UMS has announced that it will continue to raise issues important to young people in Skopje, support their initiatives, and closely monitor the implementation of the change, relaying students’ suggestions and comments.
