Reuters poll: Only 33% of Americans approve of Trump, lowest level for the third consecutive month

According to a Reuters/Ipsos poll, Donald Trump’s approval rating remains at the lowest point of his presidency, amid widespread dissatisfaction with the war in Iran and his handling of the U.S. economy.

According to the third consecutive Ipsos/Reuters poll, only one in three Americans, or 33%, approve of the job President Trump is doing in the White House.

Trump’s low popularity is increasingly being seen as a potential obstacle for the Republican Party in the midterm elections to be held in November. Republicans aim to retain control of the U.S. Congress, but the outlook for President Trump’s party does not appear favorable.

Democratic voters appear more united, with 46% expressing “enthusiasm” about the midterm elections, while only 31% of Republicans feel the same way.

When asked which party they would vote for if the elections were held today, 36% of those who identified as independents chose the Democrats, while 22% chose the Republicans.

Since mid-August, Trump’s approval rating has remained at its lowest level ever, well below the 47% he had at the beginning of his second term in office. This figure is also lower than the lowest rating of his predecessor, Joe Biden, which reached 35% in October 2024.

Like Biden, Trump is facing widespread dissatisfaction over high inflation. Gasoline prices have risen since he ordered attacks on Iran in February, a war approved by only 36% of Americans, according to the poll.

Seven in 10 Americans, including four in 10 Republicans, disapprove of the way Trump is handling the high cost of living. Over the past month, a majority of registered voters surveyed said Democrats manage the economy better than Republicans, marking the first time in a decade that the Democratic Party has taken the lead on a question about the economy.

The four-day poll was conducted among a sample of 1,167 adults from across the country, with the statistical margin of error estimated at ±3%.
