Rescue efforts intensify in Nepal after floods, with more than 900 dead and hundreds trapped in tunnels

Nepalese authorities have stepped up operations to extract hundreds of people believed to be trapped in tunnels at hydroelectric projects, including the Trishuli-3A complex, following Wednesday’s sudden floods.

Rescue teams from Nepal, China and India have been deployed at the scene and are attempting to establish communication with the people inside the tunnels. However, officials say that no response has been received so far.

Of the approximately 2,500 people reported missing, a large number are believed to be workers at hydroelectric plants in Nepal.

The scale of the disaster continues to grow. Local authorities report at least 903 deaths, while more than 4,200 people in Nepal are still considered missing.

The situation also remains grave in the Tibet region. According to Chinese state media, the death toll has risen to 16, while 546 people have been reported missing.

Search-and-rescue operations are continuing without interruption, as teams on the ground work to find survivors and determine the fate of those whose whereabouts remain unknown.
