Red alert for extreme heat, thermometer expected to climb to 40 degrees in Albania

Albania is expected to experience the hottest day of this season today, with temperatures in some parts of the country set to reach 40 degrees Celsius.

Meteorologist Tanja Porja announced that a red alert has been issued for the extreme temperatures, stressing that this day marks the start of the three-day peak of the heatwave.

According to her, temperatures of 40°C are expected in Shkodra today, while in the rest of the country they will range from 36 to 39°C, making this a very hot day.

Porja also explained that the morning was relatively cool, with the minimum dropping to 16°C in deep mountainous areas, while in the western part of the country morning temperatures fluctuated between 21 and 24°C.

She said that there will also be isolated showers today, mainly in the eastern and southeastern parts of the country, while clear skies and sunny weather will prevail across most of the territory.

“The whole day is this red. Red alert today. We are expecting 40° today in Shkodra. The rest of the country will see 36, 38, 39°C. A fairly hot day.

However, this morning is relatively cool, with a minimum value of around 16° in deep mountainous areas.

Meanwhile, by midday today we expect 40°, as we said, in completely isolated areas. The three-day peak of the heatwave starts today, since we have 40 today, tomorrow and the day after as well, and we expect that from Tuesday next week temperatures across the country will continue to drop significantly,” Porja said.

“As we approach midday, we will see cloud development in the southeast, where short-lived showers will occur. The sun will continue to dominate along the coastline,” Porja said on the program “Dita Jonë” on A2 CNN.
