The state of the Kosovo Police has prompted a reaction from Alliance MP Burim Ramadani, who has called for Interior Minister Xhelal Sveçla to leave office and be held accountable for the problems within the institution.
In a Facebook post, Ramadani listed shortages that he said affect police officers, ranging from insufficient caps and uniforms to basic equipment and winter tires for police vehicles. He also claimed that officers are forced to sue the Ministry of Internal Affairs to receive supplementary pay.

According to the MP, health insurance, organized transport and meal provision are not even on the agenda. Linking this situation to Sveçla’s leadership, he called for the minister’s removal, arguing that the police have suffered enough damage.
Ramadani also raised the issue of promotions, saying that the police have gone without this process for almost 10 years. He also said that neither an adequate increase in the operational budget nor operational autonomy had been secured.
The MP attributed responsibility for the situation to Sveçla’s poor management. In Ramadani’s assessment, the minister lacks the necessary competence in this field and has undermined the operational autonomy guaranteed to the police by law.
